Cubicle Chic: Wardrobe Essentials for the Office

Jobs are demanding, some people are working harder for less pay–and news of daily job cuts doesn’t quite help things. Oftentimes, how people look on the job isn’t nearly as important to them as how they will get through the day.

However, the attention employees pay to their appearance could help them enjoy better work days in the long run. Not only do leaders and management respond better to people who “package” themselves well but research shows that people who look better on the job often feel better about themselves.

In this issue, Stoosh Images reveals must-have pieces for maintaining a cubicle-chic look:

The Blazer: The blazer is a wardrobe essential. In a basic color–black, grey, or nude–a blazer can be paired with pretty much any bottom, and works well for casual or more corporate looks. To make the most out of it, coordinate with a range of tops and shirts for repeat looks that can go unnoticed.

The Dress: A well-tailored sleeveless or short-sleeved dress is a secret weapon. Pair with a blazer or cardigan or wear it on its own. For an extra twist, accessorize with necklaces, brooches, belts, or even hosiery to create game-changing impacts.

The Crisp White Shirt: The mileage a career woman can get out of a crisp white shirt can be unlimited. It is the perfect closet basic. Pair with everything from skirts and trousers of any colors to tailored denim and discover its versatility.

Tip: To keep shirts lily white, use a detergent best suited for whites along with a booster like Oxy Clean or a bar of blue soap.

The Pump: Nothing says “career” like a pump. A pair in black and with an elegant heel can be combined with almost any outfit for a sharper, more professional look. Remember to keep shoes polished regularly and well maintained for longevity.

The Skirt: A straight, tailored skirt is, without argument, a wardrobe essential. It’s super-easy to build a look around one in a neutral shade. To keep things career-appropriate, ensure hemlines are at the knee or just below.

The Handbag: Women tend to carry around their lives in their handbags. Therefore, it should be a solid investment–a quality, durable product that can withstand busy days, long hauls, and occasional over-stuffing. Look for a handbag in bold or neutral colors that will go well with any outfit. Be sure to pay attention to details like hardware, which over time, could look worn.

Swimsuits: Embrace Them!

We are normally our worst critics. Moreso when it comes to dressing for the beach or pool. With summer in full swing, Stoosh dedicates this issue to swimwear secrets. Read on to find out how to celebrate your  body type by choosing styles that will help you look fabulous and feel confident this season and beyond.

For ladies who are more full through the hips and thighs, look for eye catching details above the waist. A pop of color, deep neckline or hardware will draw attention to the upper body. In addition, vertical stripes or graduated shading (light on top, dark on bottom) create a slimming effect. Just shy away from boy shorts and avoid any embellishments on the bottom.

Have a tummy? Don’t worry! Suits that skim over the mid-section like an A-line tankini work like magic. A ruched or textured fabric over the mid section works wonders, too. And, guess what?

Underwire in the swimsuit is key for large-busted gals. Wide straps, boning and seamed cups are also a huge help. In addition, halter tops with wide bands can offer support and are a good way to play up the ‘girls’.

Do you have  a straight, slim figure? Lucky you! To look more curvaceous, try three-dimensional details like ruffles or bold prints. Bottoms with embellishments at the hip help to create a waistline, while horizontal stripes or a padded top will add volume. Avoid vertical stripes, square necklines, or completely solid fabrics which can elongate and slim.

What to Pack for a Perfect Summer Trip

From wrinkle release products for warm-weather looks, we’ve got a few secrets to help you pack smart and stay stylish while you’re away.

  • For exercise purposes take a sneaker-shoe instead of regular sneakers, as they take less space.
  • Avoid 100% linen; this crushes very easily. Go for rayon/linen or linen/cotton blends.
  • Wear heavier clothes (denim, jackets, etc.) and pack the lighter ones.
  • To reduce wrinkles, fold clothes using a typical plastic bag from the laundromat or place tissue paper sheets between clothes.
  • Pack as many neutrals as possible–grey, burgundy, khaki, black and navy blue. These are easier to mix and match.
  • Take shoes that work with more than one outfit and use accessories to enhance the look.
  • When possible, take extra tops made of lightweight materials instead of an entire outfit.
  • Pashminas are very elegant and great for cold conference rooms if you’re traveling on business. They are also a great substitute for jackets.
  • Pack underwear that match more than one bra.
  • Use travel size cosmetics/toiletries instead of full size containers.
  • When purchasing luggage be mindful of weight. Some bags on their own are quite heavy even when empty.
  • Always have a change of underwear or clothes in your hand luggage in the event your bags get lost.
  • Heading to warm climates? Avoid 100% man-made fabrics like polyester and rayon. They are not breathable and should be substituted with cotton blends.
  • Never leave home without travel size bottle of Downy “dewrinkler” spray. In the event there’s no iron available, or time is against you, spray clothes, hang in the bathroom before having a bath, and watch the creases disappear.
